Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
As a Nurse Practitioner Intern, you will be working closely with the Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses on the ward and throughout the hospital providing safe, efficient and quality patient centred care. You will be working closely with Surgeons and Anaesthetist to provide treatment plans for their patients. You will be caring for patients from a wide range of surgical specialities including orthopaedic, urology, breast, gynaecology, general, ENT, plastics, bariatric, dental.
This internship is a structured pathway with a clinical master’s degree component, clinical supervision and assessment against the Nursing Council’s Nurse Practitioner competencies. You must have met all of the criteria and be in a position to apply for the 2026 Nurse Practitioner Training Programme.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- Hold a current APC with NZ Nursing Council is essential
- Able to meet the criteria for entry to the Nurse Practitioner Training program
- Completed suitable Master’s program accredited by the NCNZ and aligned with NPTP
- Have completed the prerequisite courses including health assessment, pathophysiology, and pharmacology preferably B grade or above
- Have completed a minimum of three years equivalent full time (0.8 FTE or higher) within the last five years in relevant practice area.
- Prior knowledge, skills and experience, caring for a diverse range of patients
- Professional and a role model to others
- Demonstrate leadership and delegation skills
- Curious and eager to learn and teach others
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to build strong rapport with team members.
